The Water & Sanitation Director leads all Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives for UnityReach Global. The department is responsible for providing sustainable access to safe drinking water, improving sanitation facilities, promoting hygiene education, and reducing waterborne diseases through community-based programs.
The Water & Sanitation Director works closely with the Mission Director, Medical Director, Humanitarian Relief Director, Education Director, Logistics Director, and local government agencies to ensure all WASH projects are safe, sustainable, and community-owned.

Core Responsibilities
Before the Mission
- Conduct community water and sanitation assessments
- Identify locations for wells and sanitation projects
- Secure permits and coordinate with local authorities
- Purchase equipment and construction materials
- Recruit engineers, technicians, and WASH volunteers
- Develop hygiene education materials
- Prepare project budgets and implementation plans
During the Mission
- Supervise water well construction and rehabilitation
- Test water quality before systems are placed into service
- Conduct hygiene education sessions in schools and communities
- Support sanitation improvement projects
- Train local maintenance teams and water committees
- Monitor construction quality and safety
- Coordinate with medical and humanitarian teams to reduce waterborne disease risks
After the Mission
- Complete final inspections of all WASH projects
- Transfer operations and maintenance responsibilities to trained local committees
- Deliver maintenance manuals and spare parts where appropriate
- Evaluate project outcomes and community impact
- Prepare technical and financial reports for donors and leadership
- Schedule follow-up visits or remote monitoring when feasible
- Develop recommendations for future water and sanitation initiatives
- This structure creates a Water & Sanitation Department of approximately 45–60 staff members and volunteers, capable of planning, constructing, monitoring, and sustaining clean water and sanitation projects while promoting long-term community health and local ownership
